Hello! I have been prescribed lamictal for my bipolar disorder. When I looked for the info on this drug, it says it is used for complex partial seizures, and not bipolar disorder. Why did I also get this drug? Is it possible that it is used for both disorders or is there a mistake? Thank you!
Hi! My sister suffers from complex partial seizures and is taking lamictal. I once read in an article, and was also surprised, that lamictal had antidepressant activity in patients with bipolar depression. So, I suppose that your case shows us this is not a mistake.
Lamictal was orignally introduced for the treatment of Bipolar disorder. In studies it has come that it is also an effective treatment for seizures. Your doctor has prescribed Lamictal for the correct reason.
