lidocaine for throat pain from radiation treatment

My mom has cancer and is on chemo. Since the radiation started she has throat pain. I wonder if I could give her indocaine to relive pain from inflammation of the throat. I appreciate any advice. It is bad enough already, I don’t want her throat to be sore too.

Inflammation of the lining of the mouth is a temporary side effect that may happen when radiation is given to the head and neck area. It usually improves within a few weeks after treatments are completed. Her oncologist may prescribe viscous lidocaine (numbing agent) or some type of "Miracle Mix" to assist in her comfort if her mucositis is especially bad. Spicy foods, abrasive foods, and alcohol should be avoided, as not to aggravate the sore tissues. She should drink lots of water to maintain her fluid balance and the moistness of your tissues.
