lisFranc injury: Fusion recommended

I just went to the doc about an injury that is similiar to a lisFranc injury (although I guess not a textbook case). The doc I went to has suggested athrodesis (fusion) of the joint based on esperience and an artice:

Anyone facing a similiar situation. The score for fusion were around 92% of normal function versus 65% for fixation devices. Also, 4 of the fixation devices ended up needing to be fused anyway. And no future arthritis worries. Do you lose anything with the fusion?
