My husband is admitted to a hospital. He was on the business trip in Argentina when he has experience difficulties. I did not hear him only his colleague from the firm. The phone line was very bad but I have heard that he has mentioned something about the lung embolism. What are the effects of lung embolism?

Pulmonary embolism can have the following effects: increased pulmonary vascular resistance due to vascular obstruction or neurohumoral agents including serotonin; impaired gas exchange due to increased alveolar dead space from vascular obstruction and hypoxemia from alveolar hypoventilation in the non obstructed lung, right to left shunting and impaired carbon monoxide transfer due to loss of gas exchange surface; increased airway resistance due to bronchoconstriction.
