Hey, marijuana can be both good and bad for the stomach, depending on what you're talking about. But acid reflux and stomach pains can be symptoms of something called gastroparesis. I smoke pot, and I have it. I'm not saying it's a certain causal connection, but some docs think there is because pot relaxes the stomach muscles and slows motility. In gastroparesis, motility slows down, so something like pot that slows stomach mobility can cause gastroparesis. With gastroparesis, the stomach slows down, food doesn't move quickly enough through the stomach, you get high stomach acidity, nausea, acid reflux, sometimes vomiting, etc.

Just a thought. Go see a GI specialist and ask her about your symptoms.

The only way to get smoke into your stomach and not your lungs, is to actually swallow the smoke. You can't just breathe and have it end up in your stomach. The simple thing to do if you think you may have swallowed some smoke, is to burp. It'll save you from any stomach pain, and you won't have people like me getting on here and thinking you're a moron.

I have been experiencing the same things as majority of you as well. I am only 21 years old and have been very confused as to what this problem could be. I will smoke marijuana and after about 4-5 hits I will start to feel the terrible pain come on (sometimes spasms internally are included.) I have been trying ulcer medication but it does not seem to have effect and now I'm just getting really nervous. I have lost weight over this and have not been enjoying my past couple months as a smoker. If anyone has a diagnosis or suggestions on what I can do to prevent this awful feeling, please, your suggestions are more than welcome. I really dont' want to have to quit smoking pot because it is such a social driver when I'm with my friends and my girlfriend's friends.

I have been experiencing the same symptoms as majority of you. I am a 21 year old male and have been taking ulcer medication but to no avail. Everytime I take about 4-5 hits of marijuana the pain starts up again. ISometimes it is even accompanied by internal spasms. I am beggining to get very nervous about all of this. After reading all of the posts I think I do inhale too much with my stomach so I will try a different inhalation method. I will also try the apple cider vinegar. It is possible that it has something to do with mucus release? I do not want to stop smoking because it is such a social driver and almost a ritual with my friends and my girlfriend's friends. I really don't want to stop smoking but it is looking like my only hope for recovery. If anyone has a diagnosis or a remedy to make this pain dissapear, please share.

first off I know i smoke to much. i started in 9th grade but didn't start using it alot until I was almost 17, until then i didn't even smoke every day. I dont smoke once or twice a day I usaully smoke all day, for sure every day and have been doing so for at least 2 years (I also live in cali so the shit i always get is fire).

I lately have been tring to quit, just last week i smoked 2 ounces in 1 week (wasn't that good but still) and i am relizing that i just smoke too much. but that isn't the reason i'm writing.

Ever since I graduated high school (9 months or so) i have had this almost unexplainable pain in my stomach. It is almost not my stomach but the area right above my cock and the pain isn't very severe just always there. The best way I can describe it is like how you feel befor you give a big speech or talking to a girl you really like, like butterflies in my lower stomach, a very weird never ending sensation.
Also im only 18, and the reason I bring that up is because for someone my age to be expierencing these sort of problems is unheard of.

The reason i am posting this on this site is because when i smoke lots of herb my stomach hurts more than usual at first( especially when coughing) but then when im high it stops or hardly hurts.

Now the last thing im tring to do is act like a badass but, stuff like this usaully doesn't phase me. Like i said im not a f@#$^&* rook i have been smoking not just weed but killa weed for more than 4 years, and more than 1 year of smoking it everyday. And like i said earlier this kind of shit i usaully dont even think about, but now everyday i am literally SCARED and that is really new for me. I think the main reson is because I dont know what is wrong. I went to the docter and she is trying to do test on me.

Like i said earlier i don't care about quiting but the only thing that makes my stomach temporarly feel better is smoking. Please if anyone knows or has heard of anything like this or has any suggestions questions or answers please post them.

I having trouble dealing with this shit and im going f@#$^&* crazy thinking the only yhing that helps the problem could be the problem.

PostPosted: 01/26/07 - 06:02    Post subject: I too get bloated when I smoke Vote now! Reply with quote

I am having similar problems when I smoke. It all began after having what I think was a urinary tract infection. Then everytime I smoked, it made it very hard to urinate.

Now when I smoke, I smoke just a little. Too much and I start feeling like I can't breathe and I start tripping out. I get sudden pains in my upper abdomen and right below my belly button. I also get dizzy at times. Smoking a little only gives me a bloated stomach that makes me feel full and I do not eat as many munchies any more. But when I do, I get bad reflux and I can feel the acid come up my throat.

Maybe I should kick back on the weed intake and see if I notice any differences. I think I will try that, maybe that will work. I've had the bloating for a couple of months now.

What is funny though is that alcohol does the opposite for me and thins me out. But I wake up feeling like shit. hahaha, I guess I'll go clean and try that for a change.

I have been using for many years. About a year into smoking (when my habit became stronger) I started noticing stomach pains almost every morning. Cramps, naseau and such. I went to the doctors for many months and tried many things, but unfortunately quitting was the only thing that helped.

PostPosted: 02/13/07 - 22:53    Post subject: marijuana and withdrawal Vote now! Reply with quote

I believe that marijuana is a powerful drug as well as a powerful medicine. While I do not doubt that smoking "weed" has caused many people withdrawal symptoms, I know that taking a generous dose of anything psychoactice (alcohol, opiates, weed, lsd) will leave you with a hangover if you are not used to said substance, and more importanly, the dosage. Marijuana is definately on the low end of the hangover spectrum. Everyone reacts differently, but when I first started smoking I would get a majoritivly negative feeling the next day, we would describe as "burnt out". It is similar to a bad alcohol hangover, ie nausea, vomit is rarely possible, but also it would seem like you were "out of it." I learned, the burnt out feeling reduces the more my body got used to the weed, and it could also be cured by smoking weed. Large issues are tolerance and method.

Again, this is just my experience, but it does the body good to take about 2 days every month and don't smoke. It helps keep tolerance down and and seems to "clean" up my high afterwards. Weed has also always provided relief from stomach ailments for me.

I also think, much is to be said about the kind of marijuana, and the method of ingestion. For example, a shwag blunt to two people will give me a better chance of feeling burnt out, whereas a bubble hash hit out of a vaporizer leaves a very "clean" high that almost never causes me to "burn out."
When it comes to chronic, ie. kindbud, sensamilla, etc, there are again varying highs for varying strains. Indica's are known for "knockout buzzes" that nearly put you to sleep. Sativa's are known for a clearer, more creative high, often accompanied by increased energy, as apposed to the indica's K.O. affect. Again, much is to be said about quanity and method, but strain matters the most. I don't smoke weed that has seeds in it, any signs of mold, smells bad, or Id on't like for whatever reason. Keep your standards high. For those of you that can't find chronic, try instead to, make hash, buy a vapo, or try brownies.

The bottom line, it's a free country, (PLEASE NOTE: In almost all of the US MJ IS ILLEGAL) smoke if want to smoke, don't if you don't. If you think it's causing you an ailment the best idea would be, quit for a week and see if the problem a. goes away, b. gets worse, or c. stays the same, reevaluate accordingly.
For me, MJ makes me hungry, reduces stress, causes excess phlem, reduces nausea, and makes me feel socialble. It is also important to note that I also accept long term consequences unknown to me, but often vaporize so I don't worry. I weigh the positives and the negatives and I'd rather smoke most days than not. But that is just my opinion.

PS. Prohibition doesn't make sense, ask any economist you know, or read an economy book. Personally though, if I were to smoke daily, as I do, I would know my product, back and forth, use the internet (try erowid.com or totse, or even google,) and check out the Marijuana grow books, David King's "Cannabible," grow websites, or an issue of high times. This may help know what kind of weed you smoke, and better where it was grown. Weed is actually very similar to alcohol in many ways, think of it like this, a liter of cheap vodka will have a very different effect than one grey goose martini. Just as a shwag blunt and northern lights vapo are very different highs. Smoke the good stuff if you can.

PostPosted: 03/05/07 - 11:25    Post subject: Vomitting Vote now! Reply with quote

Hey, so I used to smoke casually with friends. It was just a nice thing to do on weekend. Starting a 5 months ago, I started having a problem where whenever I smoked I would vomit uncontrollably. I don't think it's an allergy because my throat has been heavy for 5 months now, so I know it will happen again. Does anybody know what this is, because I've never heard of it, and it's really just a bother because it make every day life just a little uncomfortable.
