Old topic I guess, but as it has previously been said it is truly dependent on the individual.
I smoke regularly, not every day, but regularly. I spend more time in the gym than 99 percent of the people on this planet.
The negative effect that weed will have will be on your lungs. It's not harmless. However, I can speak from experience that weed will not be nearly as harmful in the gym as alcohol.
The problems with alcohol are the fact that you are consuming nothing but empty calories. It has no nutritional value. If your metabolism isn't high, all of those calories are going straight to your mid-section.
I've actually read that alcohol consumption can effect protein synthesis and your body will use vitamins vital for muscle growth when filtering out the alcohol.
However, I do not believe these statements to be true as none of the articles had any references to scientific studies, and I am unable to locate any studies that specifically link alcohol consumption to negative side effects in the gym.
Either way, I have given up drinking with the exception of on holidays because of all the empty calories. Weed, however, I do smoke, and will continue to smoke. It doesn't appear to have any impact on me in the gym and I am pound for pound one of the stronger people I know. |

| After reading over a few of these comments I realized that both parties (pro-smokers and anti-smokers) have good points to their argument. I do agree with a comment made by one of the individuals and he stated that it depends on the person. I used to smoke pot myself. I started smoking when i was 15 unitl i joined the military when i was 19. I do have symptoms of memory loss. For certain people they let mariguana consume their every day. I have seen this. Friends of mine from highschool. All they do is play video games, work a dead end job and smoke weed. Thier determination has been comprimised. But then i know of people whom are very intellectual and have very high GPA's in college. These people are very bright and motivated. So you cannot say that its one or the other just because you smoke it. It depends on the persons mind capacity, mental streangth, and determination. I do lift weights religiously and back when i used to smoke i felt like i had a higher pain thresh hold and prolonged muscle fatigue which was a good thing. But i am not promoting smoking weed, it's illegal. TRON |

| For about three years now i've smoked weed before and lifting weights. For me it's like taking dozens of energy supplements. It's almost like getting into the zone and everything comes so naturally. Of course high lifting will not effect everone the same way. My advice is to try it and really focus on the lifts during your workout. You may take your workouts to a new level. I gained 25 pounts of muscle due to my intensified high workouts. Now if you'll excuse me i have to smoke and go to the gym. |

here's a tid bit for weight lifting stoners and non stoners who may wnat to start tokin up b4 hittin the gym...when you smoke, arginine levels increase in your blood raising nitric oxide giving you more blood flow and energy. For those of you that don't know what nitric oxide is, nitric oxide is what gives you that "pump" by opening up blood vessels so more blood and nutirients can flow to the muscles.
so smoking weed before your workout can actually increase focus, and muscle pumps. |

|
|
| I smoke chronic on avergae 3 times daily, and i smoke out of a fat bong. Im high all the time, but I work out on a regular schedule of once every other day, sometimes two days in a row. I would reccomend smoking AFTER your workout for several reasons: 1.You get REALLY high. 2. If you are stoned while working out, you'll not be as motivated. |

| Person number two, this is for you. First your world is still messed up becuase of marijuana???? why dont you continue to use it then. Secondly it all depends on the person, you who probally were paranoid before you started smoking, once you started it got worse. Marijuana effects you and only you depending on the mind set you are in. It depends how strong of a mind you have as well. i myself set up smoking as a reward, i go to all my classes, get my homework done, go to baseball practices yes i do attend college and play baseball, and go to the gym for a work out. yes after a good days work i indulge myself and it makes my world better, so if you dont like it dont talk about it because you were once a stoner so let us be! and another thing every who loves pot, try to get more people to try it, because we konw they are going to love it too |

|
|
| I've been smoking hash and weed for 15 years. I agree with most of the smoker's arguments here concerning smoking and working out. The only thing that has been only mentioned once by someone but should be taken in consideration is lung damage. Sure, if you're in your early twenties you don't feel that yet, but after a while, you can develop some problems like shortness of breath or even empysema. As for myself, I used to train 6 days a week, but now, I can't keep up with that paste and I know it's because of my lungs not absorbing oxygen as well as they used to. Weed is great but it's a fact that smoking degrades the lungs on the long term (the only flaw). |

i lift weights and i also trian in muay thai and jiu jitsu. ive been lifting for 6-7 years now and ive been smoking bud daily for many years now. and i LOVE going to the gym high. my body is so relaxed and so in tune with itself. my form is way better and i can lift way more weight when im stoned. in fact i started lifting weights in my garage before i signed up at the gym and i smoked weed(american beauty style) and drank sodas while lifting in the garage and i still gained muscle. i ended up gaining like 20 lbs of muscle in about 8 months. ive always been skinny and gaining weight and eating food was a problem for me, but marijuana stimulated my appetite greatly.
the only downside was that after a while i started coughing and hacking up brown shit. i was taking tons of bongrips everyday. so what i did was buy a vaporizer that doesnt burn marijuana, just heats it enough so that it releases thc in a light vapor and doesnt burn the weed. it gets rid of like 95% of the toxins. now i use nothing but the vaporizer and i get high everyday and my lungs are strong and healthy now from doing cardio in muay thai.
thc itself is not harmful for you inmop. its good for you if you ask me, but the smoke you inhale from burning the plant is bad for you. so if you are into working out and being healthy and still want to enjoy marijuana than buy yourself a little wooden box vaporizer and reap the benefits of thc without harming your lungs. |
