marijuana effects on weight lifting

i agree with the guy who said it varies from person to person. i smoke weed daily. from what ive seen, there seems to be sort of a trade-off -- marijuana lowers your testosterone levels, but on the contrary it increases your appetite, so you are able to take in more calories for your body to convert into muscle post-workout. this i think is more advantageous than a small reduction in testosterone levels -- you can't build a substantial amount muscle without eating a lot. look at arnold schwarzenegger...big pot head. don't believe me? watch "pumping iron". however if cardio is your deal, i wouldn't recommend too much ganja. if you must, stick to the cleaner burning methods such as vaporizers and water pipes such as bongs and bubblers. blunts are the worst for your cardio.

Hey I've been smoking dope since I was 9 years old. Not that Im bragging or think thats cool. But.... I am the most athletic person I know. I get baked and go to the gym all the time. I do alot of martial arts. I have a six pack, and every muscle on my body is pretty chissled. So Dope may have made me a bad speller but It hasn't had much of an effect on my health. The guy who owns my gym once told me that dope has estrigen (can't spell see) that female hormone. I never stopped though and I feel fine.

Hi! I took an exercise physiology course and learned the parts of your lungs that are supposed to hold air fill up with mucous when you smoke cigs. I think pots probably the same. Therefore you aren't able to exchange carbon dioxide for oxygen. Its legnthy in detail, but basically, the better your gas exchange is, the better your fitness level will be. Smoking = lower fitness levels becuse of too mush shit in your lungs. I used to be snafued (f'ed up) all the time.

Dont' you think it takesa stronger person to deal with reality- even when it's harsh- than to just numb yourself? Think about it. Don't let anything slow you down.

HI! I took an exercise physiology course and we learned parts the lungs fill with mucous. This means less oxygen gets into your body, and less CO2 gets out. Better gass exchange=better fitness. It has to do with how your body produces energy (you need effective oxygen transport). I know you can be fit and toke/smoke, but you'll be more fit if you can quit. This was about cigaretees, but I think pot makes your these little parts of your lungs fill with mucous too, so it would have the same negative effect on gas exchange. They avoid "taboo" subjects like mary jane in class for some reason.

Btw, don't you think it takes a stronger person to deal with reality than to numb/distort it with weed? Be tough and deal. Think about it. Don't let anything slow you down.

I think one has to face reality in order to move in a positve direction in life.

These posts are great examples of why you should not abuse drugs! You have a couple of people who are honest enough to admit the effects of these drugs, then you have this pathetic attempt by someone to defend himself by stating he prefers to live in a false reality! Anyone who wants to know about the effects of these drugs should do real research instead of reading High Times magazine or consulting their doped up "friends". Wink

i am a college student who was valedictorian at my High School in a class of 1200. I have been blazing since the beginning of High School and agree with some of the input mentioned. Smoking weed after finishing your daily duties(work, school,homework,gym,sports)is a great way to reward yourself and help stay focused. Knowing that you can go home and get high after you finish your important shit is a great feeling. Smoking bud has no effect on intelligence at all(Many college friends and I can prove this). There is a slight testosterone decrease which will be somewhat noticeable while working out. Ive been working out and smoking for 6 years with great results. However, i quit smoking for 40 days to pass a drug test and noticed a gain in muscle size. Smoking is a good appetite stimulator but for those of us who want that lean cut look, eating 6 meals a day isnt the best idea. My tip is to eat healthy, work out, and smoke weed when you are done with all of your chores for the day.

Marijuana contains a high amount of phyto-estrogens. Estrogen has a negative effect on body composition making harder to build muscle and easier for the body to store fat.
Ontop of that, you are damaging your lungs by the smoke, especially since it is usually unfiltered (and water pipes have no filtering effect, despite what many may think) lowering your bodies ability to absorb 02.
The smoke also damages cells releasing free-radicals, which in turn can oxidize other cells, lowering your immunity and slowing your recovering time.

To what extent these negative effects of the drug will have on your workouts and progress is undertermined and totally on a case by case basis, but understand that smoking weed is not at all productive or useful to an athlete.

im 6'6 and a daily smoker Smile Also I hold a very good paying career and work out all the time. People who say that it makes you not do anything with your life are making cheap excuses for being non-motivated people. You want to do something smoke then get out and do it.

i smoke weed, and i have to admit that there aint many positive sides to the drug, it turns u into a bum, and its a waste of money, it effects your health both physical an mental, but thers nuthin i like more then a blunt a glass of alize and some pussy so wot can i say. in reply to the weed helps when weight lifting query its bullshit, im a lifter and nearly all of ma boys r and it dont help no time 2 explain ma boys waitin outside with a big fat spliff
