I believe the best way to deal with it is not to try to stop it, just tell her firmly that that sort of thing is to be done in private. She can do it in her room, but not in public or family spaces. There is nothing wrong with the behavior, and trying to modify it could cause problems down the road, but as functioning adults it is a private act and should be treated as such with children. I'm sure it will take some time to get the social lesson to be absorbed, but consistency and gentle firmness should do it.
Best of luck. |

| ok, first it is normal and not caused because they saw someone do it or had it done to them. i watch my daughter day and night and the only time she is away from me is at an LDS church and at preschool. i know all of the people way better then i need to and i know they would never ever touch my daughter. most of what children do is because the fabric, blanket, or what ever they are using just feels different or nice between their legs. there is the possibility of stimulation but i highly doubt that it is milk because it is NATURAL and has been going on for many, many years before hormones and steroids were added to milk! it is uncomfortable to accidentally walk in on but i just walk away like i never saw anything. it is in her room and that is where i would prefer her to do it. i want everyone to try something. find a soft blanket or pet (a kitten) and take it and rub it on your arm. its soft and feels nice. that may be all your innocent child is doing. my daughter is 4. this is was my Dr. said to me. |

| It is normal for young children to engage in this type of activity. My concern is that she may be doing it too much. Have her checked out by her Pediatrician. If everything is okay medically you should consider consulting a Child Psychologist. |

| I will let you know as a kindergarten teacher, it does happen. I have two girls in my class right now that do it on a regular basis. One of them does it on the corner of her chair and the other does it at nap time on her blanket. I try to ignore it but some times the other kids notice. I would for sure incourage her to NOT do it at school. The other children should not have to see this and of course they ask questions. |
