No, this is definitely not normal and I think you should see a doctor as soon as possible. Is this the first time something like this has happened? How old are you?

There are many things that could have provoked the bleeding but without any more info of your individual situation, it is really hard to tell.

Even a ten-day bleeding would be abnormal but a six week is really something. Why did you wait so long?
If you are approaching menopause, this may be an abnormal physiologic hormonal response to a skipping of ovulation. However, such prolonged bleeding could be due to development of certain growths like uterine or cervical polyps and uterine fibroids, which are all benign growths but can be bothersome. There are procedures done in order to get rid of these growths.
Another possible cause could be uterine hyperplasia, which is an overgrowth of uterine lining or even a uterus or endometrial cancer.
