I was on 30mg of methadone when I switched. I got down to 30 pretty quickly, say like 20mg that week. I only waited 36 hours after my last methadone dose because I thought I was sick enough. Then I went through like 12 hours of withdrawal, very bad stomach cramps but not much else, but fell asleep after taking a total 16mg of suboxone. When I woke up the next morning I was fine and have been on suboxone for a year now.

I have a question if some one can help maybe you've experienced the same thing. I have been on Suboxone for 7 months and relaped and took methadone for about a day and a half, which was so stupid because I didnt really get any thing out of it. But my question is....Do i still have to wait about 36 hours from my last meth dose to take a sub. since the sub is still probably in my system anyway?

I went to a doctor to make the switch to suboxone, after being on Methadone for two years. I was on 150mg of methadone, and was told to wait 24 hours and "go ahead and take it." MAKE SURE YOU GO TO A DOCTOR THAT IS EXPERIENCED! I thought I was going to die, for two days I literally was scared I was not going to survive the withdrawls. I am now terrified to switch even if I did it the right way, I can not imagine having to feel even 1% of what I felt before.

I just went from 70mg Methadone to Sub. I came down from 170mg Methadone in 7 weeks then 36hours after my last dose of 70mg Methadone I started on 4mg Sub every 2 hours then 8mg every 8 hours now after 4 days I am on 8 in the AM and 8 in the PM. I had a fantastic doc. Only charged me 200 dollars total. I will pay him 50 bucks a month while I stay on the program.

I had 3 rough days. Day one I was just scared, Day 2, I was still scared with significant anxiety. He gave me valium and restoril. I worked well enough. By day 3, I could see the light at the end of the tunnel and by day 4, I could not believe life could improve that much that quickly with no sensation of being high. So far it's working for me better than I hoped.

Paul

I am currently making the switch from 20-25mg methadone to suboxone. I waited 53 hours before taking the suboxone, and so far I have a headache but thats it. anyway I will post later and let ya know how it goes. I pray all goes well. I just took the suboxone like 45 minutes ago, so if I was gonna withdraw would it begin now or later????

I am currently on 110 mg of methadone. It seems like the dose works for me for awhile, then it sotps working, and I keep going up. So methadone doesn't work for me. I've amassed a smal stockpile of 8mg suboxone. My plan is to take my last does of methadone on Sunday, then buy enough of the black stuff to get me through Monday-Friday. That way the methadone will be out of my system and it will just be withdrawals from the other stuff. My question is, how much time do I need to waiit after my last smoke before I pop my first suboxone? I smoke half a gram a day, without the methadone probably a full gram. Any help would be appreciated. I don't usually use message boards, so if somebody could e-mail their response to mconnorw@yahoo.com, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot guys!

Be careful i was on suboxone for 6 mos to a yr and it can be hell coming off any synt opiate or a opiate antiussive.....Just if you have anything be slow about it and if you go into withdrawls don't be scared just deal with them the best you can....

Today is my first day on suboxone. I started at 2:00 - the morning waiting was hell. I feel pretty good. Like you I averaged about 30 mg. The best thing I did was cut down to 10 mg for 5 days and than even though they say you can start after 18 to 36 hours after your last "would have dose" I waited 65 hours, I believe it really helped me. I heard if you still have meth in your system when you start sub you will go into violent instant withdrawls -so my advise is wait as long as you can sober before you start. Worked for me GOOOOD LUUUCK!

Hi Paul and the rest of the posters I am a newbie. I am on 136 mgs of methadone and I have been on the "hamster wheel " of methadone for about 10 years. I really want to get on suboxone. So if Im understanding correctly I will have to get my dose down before I can make the switch? How low will my dose need to be, as I have a 15 month old daughter and Im wondering if I need her dad to take off work for a few days due to being sick until I get the suboxone in my system. I understand your not a doc but a "guesstimation" would help. I am pulling the $400 together I need to see the doctor. Any info would be apprecitated.
Thanks,
Taunya
