I have been on Methadose for nearly six months, and recently I changed pharmacy. I take Methadone as my second choice, so when I got my meds I compared the Methadose to the Methadone and found out that they were different. The pharmacist said that everyone on Methadone would be better. If there is anyone with the same problem, please share your thoughts. I need help and I do not know what to do now.

I have a problem because my doctor will not prescribe Methadone. When I asked him why, he told me it is known as a great pain reliever but is used mainly to help heroin addicts. He told me there were many other better alternatives, such as Methadose. From what I can learn, Methadone is virtually dirt cheap as compared to some other prices. That is why I wonder where are the doctors, who would prescribe Methadone for their patient’s pain? None of my doctors will prescribe Methadone. Anyway, lately I have heard that the only difference between Methadose and Methadone are size. Methadone is a small compressed white tablet, and the Methadose is a larger white tablet that is easier to swallow and not lose. The dosage is the same, and it is less likely that a person would accidentally take more than one tablet of the larger size. With the larger tablet, it is easier to break in half if the patient dose not feels the need of the whole. I do not know if that is true, but I hope it is.

Methadose and methadone are the same animal ie.methadone hydrochloride. The only diiference is the size of the tablet.I have and still take both, whatever one they happen to have on the shelf.I prefer the methadose because it is easier to swallow.

Do you think that the effects these drugs are individual?

Because I have noticed that Methadose acts more slowly and is weaker and it doesn’t cause fatigue that methadone does.
I’ve talking to other people as well, and some told me they didn’t see any difference just like you, while the others felt that Methadose was way too weak and preferred Methadone.

I can't help laughing at the information that your Doctor provided you. Where do these guys come from. Methadone and Methadose are for the most part the same drug. The only real difference is the binding factors. Per the manufacturer Mallinckroft Methodose was made with the intent to be broken down and injected as to where methadone is solely for oral consumption. Both are very cheap. You should suggest that your Doctor educate himself/herself by talking to the manufacturer. Methadone is a great pan reliever I feel 20 years youngers.

I personally like methadone better but I think it's a matter of personal preference. I filled a RX of methadone and they gave me methadose i took one half since it was a different drug and I have a sensitve system I wanted to compare the two and I was sick for a day and a half I felt way to medicated. I called the manufacturer and they informed that the two are the same yet different. The methadose has different binders made with the intent to be broken down and injected as to where the methadone was made for oral consumption only. Sadly it seems not much information it getting out about either. Both the Doctor and the Pharmacist seem misinformed call the manufacturers.

First, don't anybody try shooting a 40mg dose wafer, as the previous poster implied. I've done both for years and I find the done makes me sleepier and I can move and groove better on the dose. I've seen a diagram of their chemical makeup and they were slightly different, not truly generic. Personal biology isalso a factor, as in "strokes and folks".
Both are schedule II drugs and are not refillable scrips. You have to see a doctor every month at a pain clinic or go to a maintenance program.
I suggest the former if you have provable pain issues.
Peace[/b]

I have been on Methadone for almost four years and I take 180 mg per day. The FDA allows drug companies to make generic meds +/- 20% of the brand, in this case Dolophine. I have had both and I can definitely tell that Methadose is inferior to the Methadone from Roxanne. The pharmacy I use knows I will not accept a script filled with Methadose by Mallinckrodt. I only use the Roxanne brand.

I haven't had it happen, but I know of an individual that actually went into withdrawal due to taking Methadose, because his pharmacy couldn't fill his script with Methadone. That's not good when the FDA will allow a manufacture make a product that is that inferior. A 10 mg tab could contain as low as 8 mg and still be legal. I get 540, 10 mg tabs a month and there is no way I will have my script filled with Methadose.

Also, while on the subject of Methadone, I have always thought and I think I read a backround of Methadone being created by the Germans. Only I thought it was first used during WW II by them because Morphine was in such short supply. It was only years later in the 60's that it was used to get Heroin addicts off their dope. Now the past few years, it's being used more and more for CP patients as it's an excellent painkiller.
