a family member is in hospital with pneumonia in both lungs. the person had many health problems from the past and drs had this person on methodone 3 times a day. The ICU drs want to take away one dose a day and replace it with xanax. I am not comfortable with this decision because the person is alredy ver, very sick from the pneuminia and does not need any other things to deal with. Missing on dose today caused headache, increase in blood pressure, shakes and unease to the bowels. How can this be right for a person who has been so sick and in the ICU for 10 days due to the pneumonia? Please get back right away so I can confront the drs on this.

No!!! Don't let them do anything differnt with the dosage, My husband was injured in a work related accident , and was put on methodne. Everytime he goes into the hospital I have to go through the samething. the dc's that are doing the other treatments don't understand, they think of methodone as an addicts drugs, and not as a pain reliever, also , they will try to replace it with other drugs, but this does not work , do to withdrawal, and other pain relievers will not work because methodone is an opiet( not spelled correct) and the person will never feel those other drugs, methodone will block anything else that is given. So stay your ground and tell them to leave that issue alone , u may want to get the DR. that gave the methodone to ur relative to get involed.
