After 11 weeks of trying with conservative treatment I didn’t manage to lose severe pain I have been feeling in my leg. The cause of the pain is a disc herniation. I can’t stand the situation anymore, so I am going for the microdiscectomy. I would like to know what happens after the surgery.

Hi there! I left the hospital next morning, but some people don’t even stay in a hospital after having a microdiscectomy. My doc restricted me from bending, lifting, or twisting for the first six weeks following the surgery, but shortly after the operation I was able to return to my normal activities.

Two weeks after mine my Dr. had me go back to normal daily activities. Five weeks after surgery released me with no restrictions. It has been eleven weeks now since the surgery and my leg is still hurting. It doesn't hurt near as bad as it did pre surgery but it still hurts, constantly. In my own opinion I did things too fast thanks to my Dr. I'm sure it didn't help that my injury was work comp.

Im two and a half years post surgery.Have Degenerative Disc in my back and hurt all the time. After the operation I went home the same day with instructions to take it easy.I felt very good with no pain at all,not knowing that I still was under the spinal block meds.Three days later the pain was as if I was having the operation again and with no pain meds.It hurt bad,I was taking Robaxin,Hydrocodone, and some kind of steroid. The pain did back off after 6 weeks but remains persistent. My legs hurt all the time and feel weak.My back really bothers me all the time as well, mainly if I do any activity that involves bending or reaching. If I sit to long or stand to long the my legs start hurting real bad.The Doc says theres nothing else he can do except give me pain meds.I had a post MRI and it showed nothing.I now have no insurance and only receive Long Term Disability from my past employer. My last visit to the surgion he tells me that he thinks I have Arthoritis in my knees and prescribed Voltaren 500mg.It dos'nt seem to be helping.I don't know what else to do.I don't like taking alot of meds.

I was in pain for several weeks and finally went to the doctor. After I went through all the steps insurance makes you take I finally got an MRI. The MRI showed 3 disc that were damaged. Degenerative, Bulged, and one that was Torn. By the time that I went to see a neurologist I had lost feeling and function in my right leg. They schedule surgery and the minute I woke up from surgery my leg felt better. Dont get me wrong there was pain where they worked on my back. But I have regained feeling in most of my leg and the doctor says that it will get better as the nerve heals. I had heard many horror stories about back surgery but am glad to say my back is not new but it is better than it was. Thanks for listening.
