Hello,
I had my daughter June 10, 2006. I had the Mirena IUS put in this August 2006, and Since August I bleed and spotted for a month and 1/2, and now no period. I have been on the Low carb ( eating only 20 carbs a day) with weight training twice a week and speed walking (3miles) three times a week since August, right before I had Mirena put in;however, since August I have only lost 1.5 pds!!and 1 inch all over. Now this is soo unlikey for my body. I did the low carb right after I had my son and lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks. And I'm young, 28. My belly fat seems to get bigger instad of smaller . I still feel "pregnant" I'm so fat and and doing so much to get rid of it and nothing is happening. And honestly I'm one to lose weight Very quickly, really never had weight problems since now. And I get these awful left side pains that I can almost not even walk.Im going to give it till December and after that it's coming out! I've used the patch and Pill and never had problems losing wieght while on them. Very unhappy! Forget the no period! I'd rather be thin!

I had a Mirena inserted 6 months ago and in the first 3 months I had terrible mood swings and depression which have now thankfully gone. My breasts have permanently swelled to a massive 10E (they were 10D before). But most puzzlingly is that I have gained weight and I am incessantly hungry. After a big meal I am starving one hour later. I put on weight most noticably on my stomach where I would never usually do that, and of course my thighs. I had been working out heavily at the gym for 4 months and I did not lose a single kilo. I have an extremely healthy diet, and I can't explain why the hunger and weight gain and I am putting it to the Mirena. I'm glad I found these posts where you have all had similar weight gain!

I had a Mirena inserted 6 months ago and for the first 3 months I had terrible mood swings and depression which has now thankfully gone. However my breasts have swelled permanently to a massive size 10E (they were 10D before), and like you guys, have put on weight!
I was going to the gym regularly and working out hard for 4 months straight and I did not lose one kilo. I have put on weight on my stomach (something that never used to happen), and all the other areas I would never put on weight, like my arms. And of course my thighs, so much to the point that I just recently got liposuction. Until it hit me a few days ago that it is probably the Mirena! And I don't want to keep putting on weight after I've been suctioned! I really want to take it out now, but like most of you has said, it's been great not having a period, or thinking about taking a pill everyday. Is there any other safe contraceptive implant that doesn't produce weight gain?

i have had the mirena for 14 months and have not gained weight. In fact, I have lost 5 pounds. I have exercised and watched what I ate for years and I think as long as your calorie intake hasn't increased and/or your physical activity level hasn't decreased, you won't gain weight.

I have had the mirena since January 2006, one month after my 2nd son. I had not necessarily gained additional weight, it's more like I can't lose any weight. I am at the same weight when I was pregnant with my 2nd son. I don't eat much but I don't exercise either, but my weight is maintained I just don't like it. From reading all the posts, I am glad to know that I was not alone in my thinking the IUD was making it very hard for me to lose weight. I have not experienced any hair loss, I have experienced hair growth--my hair seems to be growing faster than ever. And, the cramps are a monster, but they last for maybe 20 minutes one day and that's it. But, my periods are very very heavy every single month. I dont know if I want to get ride of it as I do not want anymore kids, but hubby doesn't want my tubes tied yet.

I'm not sure about this Mirena birth control. The spotting stopped after two months and my period is barely there. The issues I have are:

I've been running for two months since I had Mirena inserted and gained 5 lbs. I've had a weird tingling in my legs especially when I sit. The feeling is like the swelling I had during pregnancy. I haven't checked my blood pressure but now that I've read these posts I'll check it tomorrow.

I think I've been more hornier since I've gotten the Mirena but the weight gain is so bad I had to change my pants to elastic waist today after dinner because I felt so terrible. I think I'm going to get it removed ASAP.

Wow I am shocked all the problems I hear about the iud. I have had it for a year and a half and have had no problems. It hurt alittle going in but not that bad. Also I have not gained weight but actually in the best shape of my life after having 3 kids that is an awesome feeling. I get no periods just a light spotting every now and then. I get bloating once a month like a period, for a week or so. Working out helps and midol. I feel good with it I do not check it really I know it is okay because of how I feel . I have to say it is a good birth control for me. This site has some scary stories. Wish all well.

Wow alot of bad stories about the iud. I have had it for a year and a half and have had no problems. I got pregnant on birth control pill twice so thought this was a good choice. I have had no weight gain only loss. But I work out 5 times a week and eat right. I am in the best shape of my life and after three kids that is awesome. I have bloating and cramping once month like a normal period but excersize and midol helps. I love th iud and feel it was an awesome chioice. My husband felt once or twice while intercourse but did not bother him at all.
Hope everyone is well and finds right birth control for them!!
