I have friend who works with me, who seems a little bit strange. She has a daughter who is not so intelligent, if I can call it this way. She said she is diagnosed with dyslexia, and her problem is missing corpus callosum. I do not know what this is, just some part of the brain. Can you tell me more about this, and could it be reason why some people call her daughter as crazy?

First, I believe you would like me to explain what the terms dyslexia means. Dyslexia, etymologically, merely means poor reading, and there are few different opinions if missing corpus callosum affects exactly this area of human life. Corpus callosum is a thick bridge of neural tissue in the middle of the brain connects the two hemispheres. Its role is to convey information from one side of the brain to the other. It seems that corpus callosum is used to take an active role from infancy in directing the development of the brain. The function of the corpus callosum during cognitive activity seems to be one of maintaining the balance of arousal and attention. This means connection between the two sides that enables each side to contribute its part to achieve an integrated whole. The corpus callosum is also involved in control of eye movements. In future, I am sure that research might profitably be concentrated on why the corpus callosum is so poky in the first place. Then, we will know for sure what everything missing of corpus callosum can cause.
