I‘ve been diagnosed with myleofibrosis. I had abdominal and joint pain. Naturally, I visited doctor about these symptoms. I mentioned that I feel more tired that usual, so he requested a full blood screen. The test showed that the blood counts are abnormal. I am thinking to ask for second opinion.
I don’t think you’ll gain much from a second opinion, although some hematologists have had more experience at dealing with myleofibrosis. I am not a doctor but I think that to be sure of the diagnosis a bone marrow biopsy is required. An enlarged spleen and/or liver are also evidence of a myeloproliferative disorder. Take care.

I was diagnosed with myleofibrosis last week. It does require a bone marrow biopsy. I have been battling rheumatoid arthritis for 4 yrs. now and every month I had to have a cbc. From the begining my tests always came back low so my rheumatologist sent me to an oncologist who thought at first a few iron shots would cure the problem. For the next 6 weeks I had a shot of procit on a weekly basis. While taking the shots my hemoglobin did start to go up and when it finally reached 12 he said ur cured, come back in 4 weeks for a follow up. Upon going back and having another cbc it was discovered it had fallen back to a 8.9 and thats when he ordered a bone marrow biopsy.
The only symptoms I have are fatigue and some slight left shoulder pain every few weeks, which until my myelofibrosis diagnosis was blamed on my RA.
My doctor wants to monitor my blood for now before deciding on a course of action which doesnt sit well with me. I would rather take this thing head on and fight it while its still in the early stages.
