I noticed a lump in my sons neck today, it looks like a swollen node. He had sore throat and still feels very weak, I think he may be having prolonged sore throat. I was giving him warm tea, Tylenol, used humidifier in his room, he rested a lot but none of it helped. The lump occurred today and I was wondering what it could be. Should I take him to a doctor or should I wait a bit longer for the symptoms to go away?

Well, prolonged sore throat is certainly a good reason to take your child to a doctor. I think he should be checked for mononucleoisis. All of the symptoms you mentioned sound like Eppstein Barr virus. Mononucleosis lasts for a month and carries all the symptoms you mentioned. A doctor may order a blood test to check for mono antibodies. The treatment is just the same like with sore throat, rest, fluids, NSAID’s but it only lasts longer that common sore throat or flu.
