I recently found a lump on my neck and was told it was a goiter. I had Ct & ulta sound done also blood work. My physican wants to do a needle biopsey in her office . Should a needle biopsey be done under under a ultra sound for visual guidance.

I had needle biopsies done about 15 years ago due to my thyroid. It did not require ultra sound or anything else. Though I'm not sure...I do not think they stuck the needles in far enough to cause any concern. Though this procedure sounds bad and as if it is painfull, it is not. They stuck a needle in my neck 12 times (because I had alot of lumps).
It was alot easier and much less painfull than I expected.
