they should and WILL- specially if you request them to do so..In the US it is standard procedure to do so. Good luck - and try not to stress too much ... i have been through this myself and although it is heartwrenching you WILL get through it- what is most important is to be supportive towards your signifigant other and ask he does the same...It helped me to know that most often when this happens it means that there was something not right with the baby and i would rather this happen early than have my child suffer as i too lost an infant and THAT is a complete NIGHTMARE. Years later after finally having another child I am all the more thankful for him and personally feel like my past experiances have made me more grateful than most for the blessings that i have.

It is NOT normal to not hear the babys heart beat. The other thing is that a fetus can continue to grow even after it has died. And another thing if the doctor can infact see the baby on an ultrasound to make sure of it's size then they should be able to detect a heartbeat. I hate to be the bringer of bad new, but in most cases if there is no heartbeat the baby is dead this happened to me I didn't even think I was pregnant just went in for a gyno appt they said I was pregnant and I had had a missed miscarriage they told me the baby looked to be 12 weeks they did the D and C I am now very happy to say that i am 18 weeks along with a healthy baby girl they could detect the heartbeat from 8 weeks (that's when I found out i was pregnant) and could detect a strong heartbeat every visit I have had

This is my 2nd pregnancy! I went for my 10 week appt. and was sch for an internal sonogram, the dr. could not see a heartbeat and that the baby was measuring 8 weeks. The dr. gave me the option of having a D&C i'm holding off untill i have some sort of sign that this pregnancy isn't happening i'm not in denial but i have to have hope. Dr.s are human and can make a mistake plus i feel great(no spotting, cramping Nothing!!!) i guess waiting and praying are the only things to do. I have a beautiful 15 month old, i have to be strong for her. My heart goes out to everyone who has lost a baby. And never give up hope. GOD BLESS!!!!

My wife and I went to the doc today for the first visit. Babycenter.com and others said fetus was 11wks +/- based on LMP, but her cycles have always been irregular. Fetus only measured at 8wks, and yolk sac was visible but doc could hear no heartbeat. She sent us to the radiology specialist who did both internal and external sonograms. Tech couldn't comment, but I was watching the screen and she used a program while looking at the ovaries that measured blood flow. It would flash colors with my wifes heartbeat. She used the same over the image of the baby, and there was no discernible activity. This would be our first child, and we have been trying for quite a while. She has had no spotting, or bleeding. She had cramping that she described as moderate just a few days ago, though. She goes for a follow up on Monday (Doc has already mentioned "removal" options, and I am just not sure if we should still have hope or not.

I am 8 weeks 4 days. I had a large gush of blood (non since that) and ran to the OB. He did an ultrasound and said there was no heart beat. I went back today expecting to plan for a DC but he found a strong heart beat. I am gettting bed rest and praying.
