Federal government was promoting product that seemed to result in unnecessary HIV infections throughout the world. They were promoting spermicide nonoxyl 9. it was also stated in San Jose Mercury News that Conventional wisdom has long held that the spermicide offers extra protection against a gamut of diseases, including chlamydia and gonorrhea. The thinking was always that while condoms are good, and lubricated condoms better, lubricated condoms containing nonoxynol-9 are the best."
