nuvaring weight gain

Thank you all so much for putting this information out there.
I have been gaining weight like a freak. I get ravenous at night and in a constant state of bitchy. I went and got on prozac because I thought I was coming undone. Now I know. My doctor said "oh no, it can't be the ring" but she's never been on it. I took it out last week and I'm never putting it back. It may be convenient but lack of sex drive and having to wear jamjams all the time because my clothes dont fit is not convenient.

Thank you ladies. You've given me hope that I might get to wear my bikini once this summer.
Any birth control options other than condom that won't put weight on?

Nuvaring is AWESOME!! I love having more stable moods, and the depression that I had on the pill was getting too hard to handle. Yes, I've gained 10 pounds, but have lost 6 with a better diet and regular exercise. This weight gain was not near as bad as Depr-Provera....I gained 25 on that, and it took over a year to get myself back. Like I said, I love the low-dose hormone, and I can accept a little weight for having my life back! Anway, I'm at a point in my life where I can do something more permanent, and get away from birth control all together. Living organically is my ultimate goal. For now, though, it's Nuvaring....no complaints!

Wow! I have been on the ring for about a year and find myself buying bigger and bigger pants. Lately I have realized that nothing mattered - diet, no diet. I felt like the gain was out of my control which was so depressing. I finally asked myself what could it be.. could it be the ring. I am sitting here in amazement reading all of this! THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!

I was just given nuva ring today, after reading these postings there is no way I will be using this medication b/c of weight gain. Does anyone know of any good birth control pills that have less weight gain? I don't want to go to the iud yet. Also, I was on yaz before and it made me lets just say... crazy. Mad

I was on the nuvaring for 3 years and asked my doctor to take me off of it last year to see if my weight would come down and it did. In the three years that I was on the nuvaring I gained 30 pounds. I had never been able to gain weight until I started using the nuvaring. I loved the riing, but I prefer to stay the size I was before I started using the nuvaring.

I used to be in GREAT shape before I started the nuva ring. I was on it for 3 months and 3 weeks before the 3 month mark I gained 10-15 lbs all in my stomach and hips...it's horrible...i just switched to Yaz and have been on it for a month but my body is still feeling the effects of the nuva ring...I have no clothes that fit and i am absolutely miserable. I think the weight gain is a combination of bloating, water retention and fat. I'm not sure but I've never been this fat in my life!! I HATE THE NUVA RING!!

I've been on Nuvaring for almost 2 years now. After having my son I gained almost 30 lbs. I got on Nuvaring when I stopped breastfeeding. It was great, lighter periods (sometimes only 2 days) and sometimes no period at all. I hadn't been sexually active for the majority of the time I've been on it and I haven't gained a pound since I've been on it. I am now a few pounds shy of my post-delivery weight. So I think it just depends on your lifestyle and diet. I, too have tried other methods of birth control. Depo-Provera, I gained 50 lbs in 6 months. I was on Orhto-Novum for years and continued to gain weight. I tried the patch for a while and it was good, but sometimes even once a week is too much to remember. I took breaks from birth control to lose weight, but my periods were so unbearable I would just get back on. So far, Nuvaring has been working for me. I got pregnant 2 weeks after taking off the patch so I couldn't go back to that. Not fully effective.

My symptoms now make so much sense after reading the previous posts! At first i had severe back pain and loss of sex drive. That was the first month on the ring. Then I started getting borderline depressed, plus the lack of sex drive. That was month 2. Month 3 I noticed that every morning I woke up feeling extremely bloated. I lost about 20 lbs. in the spring right before I got on the ring, and had noticed about 7 of those lbs were back, but I blamed it on not exercising as much. Month 4 my moodiness is worse, I eat healthy and exercise regularly but still am gaining weight. I feel like I had a four-course meal when I wake up, I am so bloated! I'm calling my doctor right after this to change my medicine, I can't take anymore!!

Hello,
I have been on NuvaRing for a month and gained 6 pounds!
I never really had much an appetite until I started using the Nuvaring. I find myself Constantly hungry I wake up with hunger pains. I normally would have a cup of coffee for breakfast and be fine until lunch.
Now when I eat a full course meal an hour later I am hungry again. I workout four times a week and still manage to gain weight in my stomach,waist, & breast . I also notice feeling blotted at least twice a week and also tired.

I will ask my doctor to switch my BC over to yaz I hear good things at those pills.
