Hi there! I suppose you meant oxidation, because most people get it wrong…and actually it is Fatty Oxidation Disorder ( at least I hope this is what you are looking for ). Fatty acid oxidation disorders are a group of inherited metabolic conditions that cause accumulation of fatty acids, and a decrease in cell energy metabolism. Every fatty acid oxidation disorder is associated with a specific enzyme defect in the fatty acid metabolic pathway and affects utilization of stored fat. There are many of these disorders like Medium chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency (MCAD), Long chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency (LCAD), Carnitine/acylcarnitine translocase deficiency (CACT), Trifunctional protein deficiency (TFPD) and others. Affected infants can be diagnosed in the neonatal period. Early diagnosis and treatment is very important, otherwise these conditions could lead to significant disabilities and maybe even death.
