oestrogen for homonal headaches?

Hi, i'm a 38 year old woman who gets quite bad headaches just before, sometimes during and always at the end of my period. I've always had these headaches (usually only a couple of times a year), but since having my son 7 years ago they have got progressivly worse, i get them every month now and they ruin a week of my life. The only help a doctor has offered me is beta blockers, i'm not interested in taking these all the time as they have quite a bad affect on my.
I recently read an article that said using oestrogen gel can help, does anyone suffer like me and used this method???
