Hello. I am a parent to a lovely young boy (8 years old) that is four years old. He is sometimes defiant and uncooperative. He even does the opposite of what I tell him sometimes. This really sticks out from a normal kid who doesn’t listen to his parents from time to time. I heard about oppositional defiant disorder, and it sounds like he has it. What would be a next step if he has this disorder?

Even if the situation looks hopeless, you have to stick tight to your kid. He needs now a lot of support, because this kind of behavior often indicates that there is some other problem involved. It would be wise to seek professional help from a psychologist. That is all I can tell you right now, but I wish you all the luck.
