orange rectal discharge

My partner is a 75 year old male with recurrent renal cell carcinoma. He was treated with interferon shots to no avail, then on to gemcitabine (also to no avail) and is now in hospice care. A doctor has prescribed Ducosate and lactulose to help with bowel movements and they help tremendously. Because he has hemorrhoids, the hospice nurse also added an anal suppository and mineral oil (1 T orally a day) to his regime. Just last week, he really had a craving for tomato juice and has been drinking an 8 oz glass or two a day. Yesterday, he noticed orange stains in his underwear and said that when he wiped himself after a BM there was also an orange discharge. I asked if it could have been blood, but he said no--a light orange. Can you tell me if this is related to disease progression or if it might be from the tomato juice or the ducosate gels?

Hello! I am no medical worker but I think your husband’s discharge is all about tomato juice. I had it once as well. The discharge was stuck on my stool and was light orange, similar to light brown, not orange orange. The discharge was just a stool discharge, something that I often find on waste, it’s just that the colour was a bit different.
It could also be from the stool softeners depending on if they had any supplements or not.

I don’t think that this discharge had anything to do with your husband’s disease because his kidneys are affected and he would probably be in a lot of pain, had problems with urination, had blood in the urine, severe back pain, etc

Considering you are at the hospice care, did you report this event to the stuff that is taking care of him? What did they say?
