When my partner and I start performing sex(before penetration)I get a strong pain on my lower right hand side of my abdomen. It is almost as if my hormones are stimulated and therefore a strong pain commences for approximately 15 - 20 minutes.

Sounds like you have interstitial cystitis. Ask your doctor.
