Tell me something about pain management. What drugs are most often used? How do they work and what are the differences between their mechanisms? Can I use same drug for headache and for muscle pain?

Aspirin works as pain reliever by blocking the release of prostaglandins. Acetaminophen is well known as Tylenol and Excedrin. It works by affecting the spinal cord, altering the perception of pain. Ibuprofen also inhibits prostaglandins, it causes heartburn and upset stomach. Ibuprofen is stronger analgesic than aspirin. Ketoprofen and naproxen are similar to ibuprofen. Opioids are the strongest pain killers and they are narcotics too. It depends on how severe the pain is, which analgesic should be used.
