pain radiated from lower left back to hip area

Two weeks ago I suddenly had lower back pain - my GP asked if I had hurt it any way, but there was no 'oh no, I hurt my back' moment, it just started hurting really bad. Now the pain is in my lower left hip, it is constant, aching pain and worse going from standing to sitting and vice versa. Should I go back to my GP or my gyn? What could be the problem?

I would go back to my GP and ask him or her to do an MRI of your low back. I would guess that they would find a herinated disk at the L4-L5 level which is impinging on the sciatic nerve which causes you hip and or leg pain. The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body and begins at the L4 foramen and provides sensation to the hips and legs.
