i had a bartholin cyst removed 6 days ago. I am still having severe sharp pain like needles poking me, I have gone back to the doctor and he can't find anything that would be causing this. Could it possibly be a suture that is tight? any ideas

Hi there! Sutures are actually foreign bodies, so yes, they could cause irritation id tissue response. This is not an infection just the tissues response.

How long has it been since the sutures were placed? The longer you have them, the more chances for the suture reaction. Of course, the reaction has to do with both size and material sutures are made of. Do you know what material the sutures were made. Apparently, synthetic sutures are less reactive than the natural ones.

How old are you? There are also other factors that could contribute to this reactivity like advanced age, and especially surgeon’s inexperience.

In case the sutures became too tight, they could cause pain and even the swelling and should be loosened up, so that the wound could heal.

However, only a surgeon can estimate if the sutures are the cause to your discomfort.

I read your comments and had my marsulpalization operation 6 days ago too. I was thinking the same thing about the stitches and the pain I am experiencing but I think it's just being stitched in a really sensitive place. Let's face it, its one of the most sensitive places to have foreign things like stiches and the incision is not small nor what they took out. At least out of me - it was huge. I'm 36 and fingers crossed all will be OK. I've had other surgery before but this one takes the cake for being painful afterwards. I just have to trust my gynae and I hope it will be OK. I'm worried about how big the drainage hole is going to be - I mean its quite big, she said it would shrink over time - I hope this is the case. I was worried with the pain since until today I still had a weird discharge following the operation. Thankfully today it is gone.

In all honesty, the only thing that worked for me is to have the gland removed. I had the marsulpalization and unfortunately this procedure did NOT work. There was a blood clot, and my vaginal area was swole up like a tennis ball.... I had the marsulpalization on Wednesday, and the removal exactly one week and one day later.... marsulpalization DOES NOT WORK. (for me anyway). I was in more pain with this procedure than I was with the actual cyst. Is anyone aware of any side effects with the removal?

Hi. Did you ever have the surgery for the removal of the gland? I did 5 weeks ago and just returned back to work. However, it has been a tough road and many times feels like a burning pain that won't seem to go away. The doc examined and said it's healing fine but I am having a time of it! Any input appreciated.

What is the name of the surgery to have the Bartholin's cyst removed?

How long does it take to be able to walk normally?

hi i just had a bartholin excision a week ago. and let me tell you that was soooo painful i could not walk loss so much blood like 400cc. they put alot of stiches in me so they could control the bleeding. i went back to gyno and she said that she think that i may have an infection i'm taking two different types of antibotics. and so far it's working. i'm not in pain to much but the stiches are falling out to soon. so my gyno told me once all is clear in another week i will go back to operating room to get stiched back up again so i won't have a hole down there and clean it up. tell you the results later when that time comes.

[i]I had my cist removed 2 days ago, its still painful on sitting down and quite swollen and bruised, i'm just waiting for it to go down as its akward not being able to sit properly i look very daft wriggling from side to side to get comfortable! I think its causing you pain because it will do! there maynot be anything behind the extra pain just the fact somethings been cut out of you.
