Posted: 03/03/08 - 23:01 Post subject: stabbing pain during menstruation |
|
|
I have had severe, stabbing pain only on my right side. The pain gets much worse during menstruation. I have had two children and two c-sections. Comparible to labor, my pain during menstruation is about an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10. I have had numerous ultrasounds that have found small cysts. My doctors say these are not big enough to cause the amount of pain I have. The pain is extremely sharp and makes it hard to talk even breathe sometimes.
My doctors recomend birth control, but I get severe headaches when on them. I am at a loss. Either I suffer from severe pain in my abdomen for 2 days each month or suffer from terrible headaches 3 times a week from the birth control. Any ideas? |

| Oh my gosh I can't believe other people go through this. I'm so glad I found this. I seriously thought I was the only one in the world. I have been dealing with this pain for 6 years now. It started my senior year of high school. Later that year my first semester in college I got excruciating pain in my right abdomen and went to the ER. They thought it was appendicitis, but did a scan and told me I have cysts on my ovaries and that one ruptured. Since then I have seen 3 different gynos and no gyno has ever seen any cysts on my ovaries. I had been on birth control regulary this entire time. I have also gotten annual paps and never had any abnormalities. I have told the gynos about the pain (it never went away it comes and goes) and she suggested the GI doctor. So now I have my first GI appointment next month. I don't think mine is endometriosis because wouldn't they have found some sort of abnormalities by now? Every pap comes back fine, as well as every ultrasound they've done. I've seen 3 different doctors and same answer every time. Is there anything GI related that could cause this? |

| I am so relieved to see that there are actually women out there with symptoms that i experience. I am 17 years old i have endometriosis which during my surgery they removed, and i had to have a "chocolate cyst" removed. since my surgery i have had horrible pain with my bowel movements and urinating when i am on my period. i also have functional cysts which are VERY painful when they burst, i get them ALOT. i have tried birth control but i had a very severe reaction to it. i have unbearable menstral cramps. could there be adhesions from my surgery or could my endometriosis be back?? please any advice would help! |

| Guest - The only way to diagnose endo is through Lap surgery. I never had an abnormal pap smear and the only thing I was experiencing was very painful periods. Trying to go poopies was excrutiating. Ouch! I would scream out in pain. I was also experiencing infertility. I just had lap surgery done last Thursday and was surprised that they found quite a bit of endo and scar tissue and removed a couple of ovarian cysts. I think they found endo on my colon as I am experiencing extremly painful poopies right now. I called the dr. and he said it was normal considering everything I had done inside of me. I wish you luck and would look into having a Lap. |

| Sorry to hear you are all experiencing this also. I'm a 30 yr old mother of 2 c-sections. I didn't have this before my 2nd child who is just over a year old. I've only had my period for 4 months, and have been experiencing the pain each month. Mine is only during bowel movements and my pain is abdominal. It sounds as if some experience it in the abdominal region and others are in the bottom. I'm going to continue to check back and see if any of you have any input from your Dr's and I'll do the same. It truly is the worst pain I've had, I have to hold my breath and meditate to poo because I don't want to scare my kids by yelling. |

|
|
Hello, My very first post!
I am shocked to see that I am not alone. I am 36 and a mom of 3. I stopped taking the pill 3yrs ago and now not only does it make me keel over, just to pass gas, but the clots that I have those first 2 days are uncontainable. There is no Tampon to take these on!! Does anyone else have the clots with the painful BM's?
My situation is that i'm uninsured and wouldn't be able to afford the tests they will probably want to run. So i'll keep checking here to see if any one has Dr advice..... |

| I too am having similar symptoms. Excruciating lower abdominal pain while trying to pass gas or a bowel movement within the first 24-36 hours of my period. This has happened like clockwork every month for the last nine months since starting my periods again after having my daughter (c-section). I have been for a pelvic sonogram which showed nothing abnormal. My ob-gyn is brushing this off as normal period pain which is frustrating me to no end. Has anyone else had any input from their doctors? |

|
| Hi girls,i have also started having the same type of pain whilst passing a bowel movement during my period,at first i thought it was severe period pain then i realised it was in connection with my bowels.Period pain previous to this last year was non existant, then all of a sudden i've started almost passing out from it.After going to the toilet i would feel the same pain for around 15 minutes then it would subside, but the area still would feel a bit sore,i thought it might be piles.i went to my doctor and i was sent to have a scan which came back normal except for one area that they couldn't tell,so i had a hysteroscopy and the inside of my womb was normal except that it was tilted/collapsed.I've been back to the doctors since as i still get these terrible pains 6 months on,that keep me off my feet for 2/3 days. i've also developed a left sided abdo pain in between periods (which i'm told could be constipation).it's impossible to stand let alone work during these times, the doc gets quite annoyed that i keep coming back even tho tests have come back normal.I've searched the internet and it comes up with that irritable bowel can effect your period pain. Also polyps.im thinking maybe the area is really sore during the first couple of days of your period and maybe passing hard or large stools could feel like something scraping along the sore area.If anyone else finds something out please let me know as i'm starting to fear the worst!and i'm wondering if the problem lies in my bowel or colon area which is a nasty place to get checked out. |

| I can't even make a bowel movement during my periods. I feel like to try would cause too much damage as it is too painful. Could this be endometriosis? |
