Hi, I have a twenty six years old friend. He became acting a bit strange. We follow our daily procedures. Going to the coffee shop, having a walk around the park and back to work is it. All of a sudden he started to be suspicious of people that we meet along the way. But it's not only this. He is also complaining about his colleagues. Allegedly they are teaming up against him. The thing is we work at the same company. Therefore I know these people and I am sure that he is imagining the whole thing. What could be the meaning of this? Is my friend paranoid?

Hi, it as good that you are aware that there is something wrong with your friend. The symptoms you described point to paranoia. There are several more indicators of paranoia like judging your friends or finding secret meanings in normal everyday life. However, it seams that your friend is only starting to develop paranoia, since you haven't noticed this kind behavior at him previously. The meaning of paranoia is actually what I just said: being suspicious of almost everything and everyone. It would be good if you talked to your friend about the problem he is having. You must persuade him to see a doctor. Because of the fact that he is only starting to feel paranoia, he will have a greater chance for recovery. Of course, the help must be provided by the professional therapist.
