period 11 days late 2 neg test results

im 30 yrs old and had a baby 11 months ago.
since the birth my periods returned to normal like clock work but this month my period is 11 days late i dont have any symptoms of pregnancy like i did in my last pregnancy . i took a hpt on day 5 and it was neg i waited and took one on day 10 and it was still neg so what could be wrong people say i should wait as it may be not enuff hormone in my body my gp sugest i wait untill i am 28 days late and then have a blood test
