period problems for last three months

I've been experiencing irregualr periods for the last three months. During August I had a scanty period and thought it was implanation bleeding, as my partner and I are having unprotected sex. I took a pregnancy test and it was negative. In September my period was very light and i thought it was done, but then it became very heavy for a few days. In October my period is at a moderate flow, but it is almost a burgundy/maroon colour. I am wondering if this is normal. The number of days between my periods have also shortened. I used to have approximately a 35 day cycle and now it's 25. When I told my doctor during my physical about these problems she said periods are weird things and can change for any reason.

I'm also concerned about the fact that my periods are usually quite long. I usually start my period by having approximately 4 days of brown discharge followed by 2 days of heavy flow and then another 3 or 4 days of brown discharge. Is this something I should be concerned about? Confused
