my daughter is 14 and not sexually active, her periods are very heavy and painful and last for 2-3 weeks. could there be something medically wrong with her.

Well, this would be called abnormal bleeding and require a gynecologist appointment. She could be having some hormonal problems and I would advise you to take her to a doc.
