Hi, I have problems with pertussis. I am in 9 month pregnancy. I should go to labor in two weeks. It started like an ordinary cough with sneezing and light fever. I thought it is going to end soon so I did not take any medicine. But when it didn't stop for a week I know that it is pertussis because my sister had it also. But how to treat it in pregnancy?
Maybe it would be the best to visit doctor anyway to confirm it is pertussis. You are pregnant and it can be many things. Pertussis is treated by antibiotics. Since you are pregnant and about to deliver you should be given erythromycin orally 250 mg four times a day for period of ten days. Your newborn baby also had to be treated with erythromycin syrup after the birth.
