Hi, I'm 57 years old and recently I was diagnosed with large intestine cancer. The doctor said that I have something what he called a group of polips inside my large intestine that had to be removed. I was going to chemotherapy to try to remove them but that didn’t work, so I have to go to surgery now. I didn’t understand him quite well and I would like to know what are those things in my intestine, where did they came from, and after they remove them will it make me feel better, will I be cured?

A polip or polyp is a smooth coated abnormal growth inside of your intestine, which is actually formed from the tissue of the internal lining of the intestine. They look like the normal lining the only thing that is abnormal about them is their size and shape, sometimes they can bleed and excrete rotting excretions and are a sign of malignity and they should be removed as soon as possible when diagnosed. They have the body which hangs in the intestine and the pedicle which is the narrow part that attaches the body, or the main part to the wall of the intestine. The procedure used to diagnose and remove polips is called invasive colonoscopy and can be quite painful and very awkward since it is performed through the rectum. If the removal of the polips is done properly and with adequate post operational treatment and chemotherapy you sholuld be cured, intestinal cancer is one of the most treatable and preventable cancers known.
