Hi,
I breastfed our first daughter for a year, I have not breastfed for over 3 months now and my nipples are so sore. I am now pregnant again and I dont know if that has something to do with it. My OB said it was probably due to dryness and to use some lanolin cream; I have tried, but it doesn’t seem to help. As I read some of the other posts about bacteria and discharge ect. It didn’t seem like I had the same symptoms. I am not sure. They look dry and scabby on the tips. They hurt all the time but especially when the stick out (I am not sure what the proper term for that is). There is no discharge and I am pretty sure its not yeast - I had thrush and this seems to be different. If you can offer any advice please do.

Hi There,
Your pain may be from hormones at work again as you are pregnant. If you only stopped breast feeding 3 months ago your breasts may be transitioning from not producing milk to reproducing with the new pregnancy. The symptoms of a clogged duct are noticeable as they are very, very painful, accompanied by swelling, redness etc...
If this matter really is concerning you, I suggest speaking with your doctor to see if an ultrasound could be perfromed. I just had one and am pregnant, an ultrasound is fine during pregnancy. As well, will tell what is going on whereas a mammo won't at the moment. You are pregnant and breast tissue is more dense therefore ultrasound. |
