Hello! I wanted to share my problem with somebody and see if some other women had similar problems. I had a tubual ligation surgery and short time after my periods started to be very heavy, and painful. This is followed by sudden mood swings. I was wondering if this could be some post op thing!!!!

Hi there! I have to tell you that you are not alone on this thing. I had pain for such along time after tubual ligation and 2 years after I ended up having TAH ( total abdominal hysterectomy ) due the problems of the tubuals having being tied. My gynecologist told me that there are so many women who have period problems after having their tubual ligation done.

I am experiencing this problem right now. I had my tubal done in 1999. Well its now 2006 and finally found a doctor to help me . Where i had it done they kept telling me its a side effect deal with it . Now i am getting ready for a hystorectomy. I found a doctor to help me . I go through 2 periods a month very heavy and painful i cant leave the house . so when i called this one doctor he said that a womens period should run her life nor be as painful and heavy like i am having . I am glad that i found this site i know that i am on the right path now .

thank you

I had my tubes tied after my third child was born, not once were there any mentions of side effects. I am considering having my tubes untied so my husband and i can have another baby. My periods are heavy, painful and i am taking medication for the cramping. I have also been experiencing heart palpitations and have read they may be linked to my tubal, I feel that any woman should be told the risks. If i had known then what i know now, i wouldn't have done it. I am only 27 and not ready to lose my uteris.

I am so relieved to find your posts. Since my tubal ligation following c-section in 2001, I have struggled with the many symptoms associated with post tubal syndrome. Still, no relief. I'm saddened to see that hysterectomy has been the end result in some of your situations. I'd like to know how you and your health care provider arrived at that decision.

I am glad I found these post's. I had a tubal ligation done in 1989, 2 years after my son was born. After that I have had a number of different problems over the years that I have been to Doctors for or that I have had surgery for. I had a procedure done because my heart was racing, and now I am on medication for life for an irregular heart beat, I have deppression and anxiety that has caused a number of problems in my family life and I have severe pain around the time of my ovulation. I am 48 now in a couple of years I will go thru menopause, But, If I had known way back then that this was possible I would have choosen diffrently. Thanks for the info. Smile

Glad I found these messages. I am 26 and had a tubal 19 months ago. I have hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, loss of sex drive, I cant sleep, I forget things more, I have gained weight, my periods are heavier in the begining for the first 2 days then really light after that. It is taking over my life. I have bad head aches which my doctor now labels as migranes and I take Zomig for that. Rarely does it help though. My right leg is numb all the time and has been for a while I sometimes get the feeling a bug is crawling up my leg though there is no bug it is a tingiling feeling. I just want to know what is the treatment to all this. I almost wish I never got the tubal. Who ever says PTLS does not exist has got to be crazy.

I thought I was loosing my mind, all of the symptoms you all described, I have beenhaving except my periods have been three days of sheer pain and heavy flow, at times it feels as if something is kicking me. my weight has yet to go away. I wish that my doctor had at least gone over the possible side effcts with me . ...Reading your entries I at least know that I'm not alone, and that this is all so real. Now I'm going to consult my doctor about my problems. Thank you so much! for sharing.

I also am so glad to have found this sight.. I had a tubal ligation in 2001 immediately folowing csection. I wish I had never had it done had it not been for my mother and husband talking me into it I wouldnt have. My periods are extremely painful its like giving birth every month and being in labor for 3 days with no epidural. Since my tubal my periods have ran my life I lose almost seven days of my life every month because of the pain...Im so drained the first three days..nothing takes the pain away ..I like you feel that my dr should have told me that there could be side effects...I feel so releived to have found this because now I know Im not going crazy or losing my mind. Im sure Im facing a hysterectomy sure wish I had of known this sooner.
GOd bless and good luck to all of you...

I am actually considering getting a tubal ligation done next month. I will be having it done right after my c-section. I was told about PTLS from an employee at my dr. office - who of course wasn't "supposed" to say anything but she wanted me to be informed. I think at my next prenatal, based on everything you all have posted, and what I have read I am going to be talking to my doctor about this. I'm only 24 and really don't want to have any complications at such a young age. If anyone has some advice please feel free.....

I would not get a tubal at such a young age. I got mine at 27. It was not my choice, it was my dr's. i have a bad heart and she didn't give me a choice in the matter. i would not have done it on my own. i have such bad menstrual cramps and i have very heavy periods. i never had problems or pains or anything before. my periods are also irregular. i also have incontinance. i can't laugh or sneeze or cough without "problems". i also gained about 35lbs. no matter what i do i can't lose it. i also have very bad headaches, mood swings, depression. loss of libido so bad my husband thought that i was either cheating on him or didn't love him anymore. i also have vaginal dryness and painful intercourse so bad that i bleed at times no matter how gentle he is. i also have creepy crawlees in my legs and it feels like things are crawling on me. this has ruined my life. my kids ask me all the time why i'm so moody and never laugh anymore. i have vaginal ichiness. i have such bad problems ever since i had my tubal. at first i figured that i was just getting old...lol. but now i realize that i have been having these problems since i had my tubal. i had it the day after my daughter was born and i could only nurse her for about 3 weeks cause my milk dried up from hormone drop. it has really ruined my life. i had it done before i met my husband, now i have found the man i want to spend the rest of my life with and it hurts so bad that i can't have any more kids and that my problems are ruining our relationship cause i just don't know how to make him understand that it's not him it's me. if i were you, i would just use contraceptives or have your husband get a vacectomy cause they are much easier to reverse. but whatever you do don't get a tubal. i'm going to talk to my dr about having a hysterectomy to end the pain and heavy periods, but i know it won't do anything for the rest of my symptoms.

I have nothing but problems since my tubes where clamped 6 years ago. No doctor will ever agree that this is the reason I suffer from heavy long periods, lower back pain during my cycle. I am 31 and want my tubes reversed. I am glad to know other people suffer from this as well....so I am not crazy! I have had ultra sounds, hormones tests, pap smears all come out normal. I am on the strongest birth control and don't even stop for a week. It has helped but but I still get cramps. When will they realize that this is not the best way to prevent pregnancy. When in Canada will they cut the cost to have our tubes reversed if we are experiencing problems as such!!!![/b][/i]

Many women who had previously used hormonal forms of birth control will describe heavier periods and worsening cramping after tubal ligation surgery. It isn't so much that the surgery caused the problems, rather its the absence of the artificial birth control hormones after the surgery that is causing the worsening mentrual symptoms. Sometimes symptoms can be relieved by going back onto a low level birth control pill. Its worth a try for anyone who is really physically miserable.

....i thought i had food borne illness all weekend or something! Then I got my period 2 days ago. Omg it is awful. I am 37 and had my tubal done last month so this is my first menstruation after the surgery. It's not a lack of contraceptives easing the flow or pain for me. Kinda how I got my 3rd. Wasn't on any. Oops but a good oops. I am blessed with 3 beautiful daughters 12yrs, 7yrs and 3 months. I figured it was time to tie 'em up. Anyway, thank you for all of your previous comments they were helpful to know. At least I know I'm not nuts after all! I will be calling my doctor.
