Hi, I`m 56 and have a high blood pressure. After taking a blood test, my doctor told me that potassium loss could be the cause of my condition. I have also noticed some heart disturbances (could it be from the same cause?). Anyway, my doctor told me to eat more meat, fruits and veggies and to drink milk. But I don`t know how much potassium should I get into my organism?

Hi, my daughter had potassium loss (she hates milk and meats). Most people don`t get enough potassium in their diets. The recommended daily intake is almost 5g a day (4.7, to be more precise). If you are exercising, your body will require more potassium on a daily base. Fresh food is good for you, and frozen too. potassium loss can give you a high blood pressure. Dificiency in potassium can give you heart disturbances and even more problem. Also, you are 56 years old and elders are more likely to be deficient in potassium.
