pre period vaginal and bottom shooting pains that paralyse me

A few days before my period I sometimes experience severe shooting pains in my vagina that go all the way to my bottom. The pain feels like its in my bones/pelvic area. Sometimes they are so bad I cant move, have to grab myself between my legs and bend down until they pass. Mad This is embarrassing if I am at work / outside! Is this normal or should I mention it to my GP? Its worse when I have a break from my contraceptive pill, although I do experience them whilst on it.
