prednisolone and azathioprine

I have to deal with rheumatoid arthritis for the rest of my life. This condition is followed with strong pain and I have been taking non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs but the pain was not efficiently dealt with. Doctor recommended me Azathioprine and I am already taking prednisone (I take it from time to time), is this combination allowed?

Azathioproine is a medication used to deal with RA. It has the Sam effect as prednisone (immuno suppressive). Using these two meds at the same time might damage your immune system so you have to be extra careful. Prednisone should not be taken from time to time, it has to be taken all the time, and if you think of stopping with that drug, you have to do it gradually.
