My girlfriend is interested in getting a tattoo on her naval, but she is concerened that if/when she gets pregnant later on in life that the tattoo would stretch and warp into something unreckognizable from the original piece of skinart. In the expanding/deflating process will the tattoo lose its lustre? will it change into something unflattering? are there extenuating circumstances, or ways to prevent the distortion of the image. ie. cream etc? are there specific parts of the belly that are safer, or more hazardous? is whether or not the tattoo is coloured an issue?
thanks
My fiancee' is a tattoo artist.... and after talking to him... here is what he said.
Yes, the tattoo will more than likely warp after having a baby. That is because of stretch marks, and even if she is lucky enough to not get them, the skin still sags from being enlarged for so long. Yes she can get totally fanatical about her health and staying fit it is a large gamble. Coloring and things of that nature will not make a difference. An area closer to the side, and a small tattoo should not be affected too much. However, again, stretch marks are common even in that area.
