hi, i was spotting about a week ago had a urine pregnancy test done by doctor, (after bleeding) was positive. went down for a scan same day as results coz of the bleeding even though it had stopped. couldnt detect any signs of pregnancy. so did a blood test, tested only 5, nurse said that it had to have dropped coz urine tests only detect 25 or above, sed its still a positive pregnancy test but youve been pregnant, and that was it. im totally confused dont know wot to think have i had a miscarriage or what?

There are such things as "chemical pregnancies" which is the name for a very early miscarriage.

I would suggest going back to the doctor or trying even a home pregnancy test within a week or two. At times a woman can be pregnant and if the hormone levels aren't high enough at the time they won't go through. You could still be pregnant or you may have had a chemical pregnancy. Keep watch of things and good luck one way or the other.

it may have been a chemical pregnancy,

A chemical pregnancy is the clinical term used for a very early miscarriage. In many cases, the positive pregnancy test was achieved before the woman's period was due but a miscarrige occured before a heartbeat was able to be seen on an ultrasound.

With the ultra sensitive pregnancy tests on the market today, it is easier than ever to get a positive result 3 or 4 days before your period is due. It is wonderful for those who NEED to know, but does have it's down side. Early testing shows chemical pregnancies which would not have been detected had the woman waited for her period to arrive.

Chemical pregnancies are unfortunately very common. 50 to 60% of first pregnancies end in miscarriage very early in pregnancy. Most occur without the woman even knowing that she was pregnant.

(ah you beat me to it by 2 minutes there!)
