Prodromal labor is sometimes called latent labor. And it is considered the most difficult aspect of childbirth, even though contractions may not be very painful. prodromal labor is characterized by little cervical change and it seems like it can go on forever (usually less than 24 hours, but sometimes 2 or 3 days!), for example true labor is characterized by progressive dilation and effacement of the cervix with false labor eventually goes away, prodromal labor does neither. The duration of labor depends on the tolerance of baby and mother.
