Please tell me where prolactin is synthesized in human body. What‘s its role in pregnancy, if there is any? Do men have prolactin? What is the purpose of doing prolactine test? Thank you.

Prolactine is synthesized in anterior pituitary gland. It’s secreted by lactotrope cells and it’s a hormone. It has role in production of milk-lactation. Increased level of dopamine in male causes hypogonadism. Prolactine test is done for investigation of low testosterone level in men. Dopamin is prolactin inhibiting factor. prolactin also has its role in some psychogenic seizures, but it’s a long story. You can read more in Goodman and Gillman.
