prolonged period - what can cause this?

I was on birth control for several years. I used different brands because I was spotting while I was on the pill. I changed to the patch and still spotted and then chnaged to the nuvaring and was still spotting. I have had 2 ultrasounds done and both came back fine. I was on the Nuvaring since April 2006 and stopped in November. I got my period on December 2006 and I am still bleeding. It has been 15 days now. Any body have a similar issue? Any thoughts on why this is occuring?
