Hi! I have GERD. But, I also have problem with chronic cough. Is there some relation between Pulmonary problems and GERD? Is possible that I have pulmonary problems from GERD?
Hi! Maybe, there is some relation. The esophagus, stomach and pharynx are intimately related to the lungs. Chronic aspiration of gastroduodenal juice, when person are lying down, can damage the lungs and vocal cords. Long-standing aspiration can even cause pulmonary fibrosis. There is a relationship between asthma and reflux disease. Many doctors do not recognize chronic cough or severe asthma as a symptom of reflux, so they don’t see a relation. You should ask your doctor about relation. It is important that your doctor consider the possibility that GERD caused chronic cough.
