I would like to know if there is a connection between raynauds syndrome and smoking. My father has been diagnosed with this illness almost two months ago and I have to admit that he is more then just a passionate smoker. He smokes two packs a day, sometimes even more. R attacks do not seem to bother him to smoke smoking.
Raynaud's syndrome is a condition that attacks blood vessels in nose, ears, toes and fingers. These attacks are called vasospastic, blood vessels are constricting when that happens. This condition may have some other underlying cause, but that is not necessary. For majority, attacks are caused by exposure to cold or stress. Smoking is causing skin temperature to drop, which might be the trigger for the attack.
