Posted: 12/05/06 - 00:00 Post subject: recovery after a TURP? |
My husband just woke up in hospital after TURP procedure. His doctor, like the others would I suppose, said that recovery is individual so he can not tell us any details!? He is in his bed now with the catheter in his penis, and he has got some pain killer medication. Anyhow I was hoping that I will get some information here. Thanks.

The initial recovery period of approx. 7 days will include some pain, especially if he, like me, accidentally gets up while standing on your urine bag. However, mainly it's the uncomfortableness of having the tube in your penis with the accompanying extra tube and bag. There will be declining pain when urinating due to the urinary canal distress, as well as dealing with the spastic convulsions of bladder and prostate responding to the changes. I was also I couple of weeks on pain killers after TURP.

| I had the TURP procedure 1 week ago, and am doing OK except for painful urination. However, I have been told that full recovery is measured in months. |
