removal of enlarged lymph nodes?

Hi! My friend told me that she has enlarged lymph node in her breast and it need to be removal. This means that she will go to surgery. Does anybody with experience can tell me something more about this kind of surgery? What will be with her after it and are there any side effects?

The surgery to remove some or all of the lymph nodes is called lymph node dissection. It is usually done under general anesthesia. Sample lymph nodes may be sent to the laboratory for examination. People who have lymph nodes removed are at increased risk of developing lymphedema. It’s lymphatic obstruction that causes swelling.
